The direct answer
The best barber booking software depends on ticket size, transaction count and whether you need new clients. Choose Youzse if you want flat business pricing, 0% commission on new clients, walk ins, deposits for longer appointments, prepaid cut packages, loyalty, client history, marketing and exportable data.
Choose Booksy if your chairs are already full and you want a strong barber marketplace with Boost switched off. Choose Fresha if you want the largest marketplace reach and accept the 20% first booking fee. Choose Barbr if you want the cheapest barber only app and never need to sell anything but cuts. Choose SQUIRE if you want a specialist barber platform and are happy with demo led pricing. Choose Square if POS matters more than barber workflow depth.
Youzse suits a growing barbershop better than a settled high volume shop doing low ticket card transactions all day, because the Youzse card rate is higher.
Why barbering is a different calculation
Most software comparisons in this category are written for salons, where the average ticket is £45 to £120. A barbershop turning over the same money does it across three or four times as many transactions.
That matters because card fees are a percentage plus a fixed amount, and the fixed amount does not care how small the sale is. At 2.5% plus 35p, a £15 cut costs 72.5p to process, or 4.8%. The headline percentage is close to meaningless at that ticket size.
So for a barber, the number to compare is not the advertised percentage. It is the total of the subscription, the fixed pence multiplied by your transaction count and whatever you pay when a new client walks in.

A worked example on barber numbers
Take a three-chair shop doing 400 cuts a month at an average of £15, so £6,000 on card across 400 transactions, winning 25 new clients a month.
The transaction count is the thing to watch. At 20p fixed that is £80 a month before any percentage. At 35p it is £140.
On Booksy with Boost off: £50 subscription plus VAT, roughly £157 in card fees at 1.29% plus 20p and £0 ordinary marketplace fee. Around £207 plus VAT on the subscription. That is the cheapest here, and if your chairs are full and you do not need finding, it is hard to argue with.
On Fresha Team: about £29.85 subscription, roughly £151 in card fees at the in-person rate, plus £75 in new client fees at 20% of 25 first visits averaging £15. Around £256.
On Youzse Growth: £59 subscription, roughly £290 in card fees at 2.5% plus 35p and nothing on new clients. Around £349.
On these numbers Youzse is the most expensive, and we are not going to dress that up. High transaction volume at a low ticket is the scenario our pricing suits least. It flips when the average ticket rises, when new client volume rises or when you value not paying to be introduced to your own customers.

What each one is best at
Booksy is deeply embedded in UK barbering, has a good client app and charges £0 ordinary marketplace fee with Boost switched off. For an established shop with a full book it is the cheapest option on this page.
Fresha has the lowest subscription and the largest consumer marketplace, so it will send you the most new faces. The 20% fee on each of those is the price of that reach.
Vagaro is the most configurable and reaches furthest into other services, which matters if the shop also does beauty or has a retail side. Calendar based pricing makes it harder to predict as the team grows.
Barbr is the barber only option, at £20 a month with half price extra barbers, so a small shop pays very little. It does not publish a card rate, which is the number that matters most at a £15 ticket, so ask for it before you compare totals.
Youzse is flat per business rather than per chair, includes deposits, prepaid cut packages, quotes, invoicing, marketing and gift cards on every plan, and charges nothing when a new client finds you. It suits a shop that is growing, adding chairs or building a client list it wants to own, and suits a settled high-volume shop least.
Where Youzse costs more
Youzse charges 2.5% plus 35p on card payments. That is higher than the headline card rates on Fresha, Booksy and Vagaro, and it is higher on purpose: the Youzse platform fee lives inside that rate rather than being charged separately. There is one number to understand instead of three.
If you take a lot of card payments and win very few clients through a marketplace, a platform with a lower card rate and no marketplace listing will cost you less. That is a real scenario and we would rather you worked it out on a calculator than found out in month three.
Youzse works out cheaper when new clients matter to you. A 20% one-time fee on a new client, or 30% on a boosted one, is a much larger number than a few tenths of a percent on card takings, and it repeats every time you win someone new.
What actually matters in a barbershop
- Contactless on a phone at the chair, not one shared terminal
- Walk-ins handled without wrecking the booked column
- Deposits on the long appointments, not on a £15 cut
- Prepaid blocks of cuts, sold up front
- Rebooking prompts on the client's own cycle
- Clipper guards and preferences on the client record
- A bill you can work out in your head on a £15 sale
How we worked this out
Every figure quoted for another platform was taken from that company's own UK pricing page on the date shown at the bottom of this page. Where a platform does not publish a number, we have left it out rather than estimating it.
Watch the VAT treatment when you compare. Booksy publishes its subscription and card fees plus VAT. Fresha and Vagaro publish theirs without that note. Check what each provider will actually invoice you before you decide.
These platforms change their plans. If you spot something out of date here, tell us and we will correct it.
Third-party pricing and features on this page were last checked on 3 August 2026. Rival platforms change their plans, so check their own site before you decide.
