Charge for the coat, not the clock
A matted doodle is three hours and a double-coated husky is a de-shed, and neither is the same job as a puppy trim. Price by breed and coat condition, take a deposit that reflects the slot and charge properly when a dog turns up in a worse state than booked.
No commission on new clients.
One card rate of 2.5% plus 35p, with the platform fee inside it.
Set up in 2 minutes. No credit card required.

Every six weeks, or the mats win
A dog groomed on schedule is a quick, profitable job. One left twelve weeks is a de-mat you will resent. Recurring bookings and reminders keep the cycle tight, and the coat notes tell you what you are walking into.
Unlimited pet and owner records.
Unlimited customer records on every plan, yours to export at any time.

Running a dog groomers business
Grooming is the only trade here where the customer paying is not the one on the table, and where the job can double in size the moment the door opens. Both of those have to be priced in before the dog arrives rather than argued about afterwards.
Coat type is the price, breed is only the starting point
A puppy trim, a de-shed on a double coated husky and a de-mat on a doodle nobody has brushed since March are three unrelated jobs taking one, two and three hours. A single groom price for all three means the worst dogs are subsidised by the easiest ones.
State the de-matting position when the booking is made and not at the door. A surcharge agreed in advance is accepted without comment. The same surcharge produced at collection is an argument, and it is an argument you have while holding somebody's dog.
What actually fills a grooming day
| Part of the appointment | Roughly | Where it goes wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Check in and coat assessment | Ten minutes | The moment a booked tidy turns out to be a strip off |
| Bathing and drying | Often half the appointment | A thick coat dried badly mats within a week and comes back as your fault |
| The groom itself | What the owner thinks she booked | A dog that will not stand still doubles this and cannot be hurried |
| Nails, ears and finishing | Fifteen minutes | Routinely done free and almost never on the bill |
Four dogs a day is four handovers a day, which is why staggered collection times matter as much as the grooming slots themselves.
The six week cycle is a welfare question before it is a commercial one
A dog groomed on schedule is a quick and profitable appointment. The same dog at twelve weeks is a de-mat that would hurt the animal, and you may be professionally obliged to clip it off rather than attempt to save the coat.
Standing appointments answer this better than reminders do. Set the recurring booking at the interval the coat needs and the diary becomes predictable enough to plan staff and van hours around.
Where an owner will not commit to a standing slot, time the prompt to the coat. A poodle and a labrador do not need the same message, and sending both the same one tells the poodle owner you are not paying attention.
What belongs on a pet record before the dog is on the table
- Vaccination dates, prompted before the appointment rather than asked about on the day
- Coat type and the finish the owner actually wants, in the words she used
- Temperament notes, including anything the dog has done to a previous groomer
- Medical conditions, lumps, arthritis and anything limiting time stood up
- How the dog is with a high velocity dryer, which decides the length of the slot
- Who is permitted to collect, which matters in shared households more often than you would like
- A photograph of the last finish, so the next groomer matches it
- The owner record kept linked but separate, because dogs change hands and owners have several
Temperament notes are a staffing document
A dog that has snapped before is information the next groomer needs before it is lifted onto the table, not after. That single note is the difference between a near miss and a claim, and it protects a junior who has never met the animal.
It also decides what you charge. A dog needing two people and double the time is a different job to the one on the price list, and it should be booked and billed as a different job from the outset.
