Running a massage practice
A massage therapist has a hard physical ceiling that most trades do not. There are only so many deep tissue hours in a pair of hands in a week, so the question is never how to do more of them. It is what each one is worth.
Why a diary of single massages earns less than it should
- A one off treatment is the easiest thing in the world to skip in an expensive month

Rebook from the table, not from the doorway
The best moment to book the next session is while she is still lying down and can feel the difference. Ten minutes later she is at the desk with her coat on, thinking about the school run. The answer becomes that she will ring you.
She will not ring you. Nobody in this trade has ever been rung by the client who said she would ring. The appointment quietly turns into an annual treat instead of a monthly habit.
A notice period only works if it applies to everybody
Ninety minutes of deep tissue that does not arrive is ninety minutes that cannot be resold. The room was heated, the oils were out and the towels were washed for it.
Take a deposit weighted to the length of the appointment and apply the same notice period to every client without exception. Waiving it for the clients you like is precisely what makes it unenforceable against the ones you do not.
Make cancelling easy while making late cancelling costly. A client who can move the appointment herself at eleven at night gives you two days of notice. A client who has to telephone during working hours gives you none.
