Jewellery and service, priced separately
A piercing is a service and a piece of jewellery, and lumping them together loses you margin on both. Price them apart, take a deposit on booked appointments and take payment before the jewellery goes in.
No commission on new clients.
One card rate of 2.5% plus 35p, with the platform fee inside it.
Set up in 2 minutes. No credit card required.

The check-up brings them back
Every piercing has a downsize and a check-up, and that appointment is the natural moment to sell the next piece of jewellery or the next piercing. Book it in, remind them and keep the healing history.
Unlimited client records.
Unlimited customer records on every plan, yours to export at any time.

Running a piercing studios business
A piercing takes about five minutes and then heals for anywhere between six weeks and a year. The procedure is the small part. Almost everything commercially interesting about a piercing studio happens in the months afterwards.
Why one combined price hides the whole business
- The piercing is your skill and your time, and it costs you almost nothing in stock
- The jewellery is a bought item with a real cost and a real margin, and the two behave nothing alike
- A single number makes it impossible to see whether cheap lobe piercings are subsidising the titanium or the other way round
- Priced separately, jewellery can be sold to people who are not booking a piercing at all
- An upgrade at the downsize appointment is a second sale that a combined price makes awkward to ask for
The downsize is an appointment, not a favour
Almost every fresh piercing is fitted with a longer post to allow for swelling, and it has to be shortened once that swelling settles. Somewhere between four and twelve weeks depending on the placement, and the client has no way of knowing when unless you tell her.
Book it at the time of the piercing. A studio treating the downsize as an unpaid obligation the client might remember to arrange has invented an appointment nobody attends, and it generates the complaints that arrive when jewellery starts to embed.
How long the studio stays involved after those five minutes
| Placement | Roughly how long it heals | What the studio should be doing |
|---|---|---|
| Earlobe | Six to eight weeks | A check at two months and a jewellery change |
| Helix and other cartilage | Six to twelve months | A downsize at two to three months and patience with the bump at four |
| Nostril | Four to six months | A downsize and an honest conversation about sleeping on that side |
| Navel | Six to twelve months | A downsize and a check before any holiday |
A client on a twelve month heal is somebody you should see four times. A studio that books none of those visits meets her again only when something has gone wrong.
Walk-ins and booked work do not have to fight
Piercing is one of the few trades here where a walk-in is genuinely welcome, because the procedure is short and the decision is often made that afternoon. The difficulty is that a studio running only on walk-ins cannot plan anything at all.
Hold booked slots for the work needing preparation, a consultation or one named piercer, and leave the rest of the day genuinely open. An ear curation with three placements deserves an hour and should not be squeezed between two lobes.
What has to be on the record before the needle comes out
- Age verification, recorded against the client and findable years later
- Written consent for the specific placement, and for a minor the consent of the person with parental responsibility
- Medical history, including anything affecting healing or clotting
- The exact placement, marked and agreed with the client before piercing
- The jewellery fitted, with material, gauge and length
- The aftercare given, sent automatically rather than recited at the door
- The downsize date, booked rather than merely mentioned
Material is the record that prevents most of the problems
Reactions in piercing are overwhelmingly a material question. Knowing that a client is wearing implant grade titanium rather than something bought online at two in the morning is the first thing you need when she returns with an angry cartilage piercing.
Record what you fitted, at what gauge and what length, every time. It turns the downsize into a two minute job, and it turns a complaint into a calm conversation about a piece of jewellery she swapped herself in August.
