Paying a deposit

Some businesses ask for a deposit when you book, and it comes off the final bill.

A deposit is part of the price paid when you book. It comes off what you owe at the end.

Why businesses ask for one

A booked slot nobody turns up to is time they cannot sell to anyone else. A deposit means somebody who books genuinely intends to come. It is not a fee, it is part of the price.

When you will be asked

Before you confirm, and the amount is shown. You are never charged without seeing what for.

If you cancel

Whether a deposit is returned depends on the business's cancellation policy and how much notice you gave. Cancel early and it is usually returned or moved to your new booking.

If they cancel

Your deposit should be returned or moved to a new appointment. Contact them if it has not been.

Common questions

Is a deposit the same as paying in full?

No. It is part of the price, and the rest is due at the appointment.

What happens if I reschedule?

Deposits usually move with the booking. Check the business's policy.

Can I get a deposit back if I cancel in good time?

Usually, subject to their policy. Ask before cancelling if you are unsure.
