Open Gift Cards in the sidebar to issue a card and to see every card you have out there. Each one has a balance that is drawn down as it is used.
Why sell them
A gift card is money you have already been paid for work you have not done yet. It also brings in someone who has never used you, chosen by somebody who already trusts you, which is the best kind of new customer.
Issuing one
Create the card with its value and it is tracked from then on. Everything sold is visible in one list rather than scribbled in a book.
Redeeming
Apply the card when taking payment and the balance comes down by what was used. Part-used cards keep the remainder for next time.
Christmas
Most businesses sell more gift cards in December than the rest of the year together. It is worth having them ready and mentioned on your public page before the end of November rather than the week before.
Common questions
What happens if a card is only part used?
The remaining balance stays on the card for next time. Nothing is lost by spending less than the full value.
Can a gift card be used against a deposit?
Apply it when you take payment. Whether that is the deposit or the balance is up to you.
Do gift cards expire?
Terms are yours to set. Be aware that consumers have expectations here, and an expiry that surprises someone holding a present is a bad conversation.
