Running a job through the workshop

Why a workshop view rather than a diary

A booking says a car is coming at nine. A job says where the car is now, who is working on it and whether it is waiting for a part. Those are different questions and the workshop answers the second.

Assigning bays and mechanics

A job can be assigned to a bay and a mechanic, and both can be changed as the day moves. That is what makes the board worth looking at when somebody asks whether the car will be ready.

Health checks can be required

A job can be set to need its vehicle health check completed before it can be finished. Try to close one without it and you are sent to the health check to complete it first. That is deliberate, because a check nobody did is worse than no check at all.

Parts mid-job

A mechanic who needs a part raises a part request from the job rather than walking to the office. It goes for approval and the job records that it is waiting.

Common questions

Why can I not mark a job complete?

The job requires a vehicle health check and it has not been completed. You are taken to the check so you can finish it.

Is the workshop the same as the calendar?

No. The calendar is what is booked in. The workshop is what is happening right now.

Can a mechanic see only their own jobs?

Yes. My Workshop is the mechanic view, showing the work assigned to them.
