Choosing a duplicate rule

When an imported row matches a record you already have, Youzse does one of four things, and you choose which at the Settings step.

The four rules

• Skip duplicates. Matching rows are left out and your existing record is untouched
• Update existing records. Empty fields on your existing record are filled in from the import, and anything already filled in is kept
• Replace existing records. The imported values overwrite what you have
• Flag for review. Everything imports and possible duplicates are marked so you can look at them yourself

Which to pick

Update is the safe default for a second pass. If you imported customers last month and are now importing a fresher export, Update fills the gaps without overwriting anything you have corrected by hand since.

Skip suits a top-up where you want the new people only and do not want the file touching anyone already on the system.

Replace suits the case where the file you are importing is definitively more correct than what is in Youzse. It is the only option that can lose work you have done since the last import, so use it deliberately.

Flag for review suits a messy list you would rather eyeball than have a rule decide on.

Doing it twice is fine

Running the same file again with Update is harmless. That is what makes it safe to import, check, fix the export and import again.

Common questions

Which rule should I use the first time?

It barely matters on an empty account, because there is nothing to match. Update is a sensible habit for every import after that.

Will Replace delete notes I have added since?

It overwrites the fields present in your file. Anything the file does not contain is left alone, but a note column in the import will replace the note in Youzse.

How do I find the rows that got flagged?

Open the import from Import Data and look at the results, then check the customer list for the marked records.
