Who you are allowed to market to

Only customers who have opted in receive marketing. Holding somebody's details because they booked with you is not the same as being allowed to market to them, and Youzse keeps the two apart deliberately.

Consent is per person and recorded

Each customer record carries their marketing consent. Campaigns are filtered against it at the point of sending, so an opted-out customer cannot be reached by a mis-set filter.

Imported customers

Where an export carried a consent column, that consent comes across. Where it did not, imported customers arrive without consent and stay out of campaigns until they opt in. That is the correct default, however inconvenient it feels on day one.

Asking properly

• Ask for it as its own question rather than burying it in terms
• Say what you will send and roughly how often
• Make opting out easy and honour it immediately

Service messages are different

Booking confirmations, reminders and receipts are part of delivering what the customer asked for. They are not marketing and do not depend on marketing consent. Do not slip an offer into a reminder, because that turns a service message into a marketing one.

Common questions

Can I email past customers who never opted in?

Not for marketing. You can contact them about work you are doing for them, which is a different thing.

Someone asked to be removed. What do I do?

Suppress them. It is immediate and permanent unless deliberately reversed, and the reversal is recorded.

Does an opt-out mean I have to delete them?

No. It means you stop marketing to them. Their record and history stay, because you may still need them for tax and for the work you did.
