Employment type on a person’s record decides whether their bookings pay the business, pay them directly or sit under a chair rental.

Go to Team, then People and open the person. Employment and payments is the card that decides where the money goes.

Employment type has three choices.

Employed means payments go to the business. This is the usual choice for someone on your payroll.

Self-employed means they are paid directly and keep their earnings. Their bookings can settle to their own connected account rather than the business account.

Chair rental means they pay you rent and keep their earnings. Pair this with an agreement under Team, then Chair Rentals, so the rent and the dates are written down.

Set this before they take their own payments. Changing it later does not move money that has already been paid.

They finish connecting payouts from their own account when the type is self-employed or chair rental. Until that is done, there is nowhere for their share to land.

Common questions

Does self-employed change what customers see?

Customers still book the business and choose the person. The employment type is about who is paid, not about the booking page.

Can I pay an employed stylist a commission?

Employment type does not calculate commission. Employed takings stay with the business. You pay your team the way you already do.

What if I pick the wrong type?

Change it on their record and save. Tell them, because their payout account is involved.
